Glenn Matthews will serve as the president of the Columbia Rotary Club in South Carolina. His one-year role began July 1, 2023.

Matthews is a third-generation owner of Modern Exterminating Co., a 65-year-old family-owned business based in Columbia, S.C. After graduating with a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business, Matthews took over as owner and president of Modern Exterminating in 2003.

In 2019, Matthews became co-owner of Carolina Pest Control, in Irmo, S.C., when it was acquired by Modern Exterminating. He is also co-owner of Modern Real Estate.

Matthews currently serves as president of the South Carolina Pest Control Association and as chairman of the Sales & Marketing Council of the Building Industry Association (BIA) of Central South Carolina. In 2022, Matthews received the Columbia Chamber of Commerce’s “Small Business of the Year” award on behalf of Modern Exterminating. Prior to becoming president of the Columbia Rotary Club, Matthews has been an avid Rotarian since 2016, serving as a board member, secretary, and membership committee chairman.

Matthews lives in Columbia with his wife, Melanie. She is the vice president of Modern Exterminating and is also a member of the Columbia Rotary Club.

The Rotary Club of Columbia is a group of professional men and women from around the Midlands area of South Carolina. The members represent various businesses and professional activities in their communities.

Founded in 1955, Modern Exterminating provides pest, termite and wildlife control for Columbia, Lexington and Aiken communities and surrounding parts of South Carolina. The family-owned business has 26 pest control technicians on staff.
