Pi Chi Omega had a grand showing at the Purdue Pest Management Conference in January, where we enjoyed a board meeting, a membership meeting dinner, and time together at Raise the Bar — culminating in a Cornhole Throwdown tournament. Pi Chi Omega’s newest member, Liphatech Eastern Region and Canada Sales Manager Nick Fugate, walked away with an awesome set of Pi Chi Omega logoed boards. FSS Inc.’s Colton Lenzie tied in the final throwdown with Fugate, so he took home the other set of logoed boards.

Meeting takeaways

The highlight of our January membership meeting was a new contribution from the Indiana Pest Management Association and Burt’s Termite & Pest Control for $5,000, presented to Pi Chi Omega in memory of the late Gene White, BCE. This contribution was added directly to the Industry Grant Program Fund to support Pi Chi Omega’s Professional Development Grants. We also voted to approve 12 new members who had been nominated for membership in Pi Chi Omega during PestWorld 2024 in October.

At the request of some members, Pi Chi Omega discussed the potential and importance for moving our membership meeting locations around to meet our members where they are. To this end, our board of directors is discussing the idea of moving our January membership meeting to other industry events. If you have an idea for a great meeting that would welcome Pi Chi Omega, please share it with us.

At the January meeting, Pi Chi Omega President Desiree Straubinger, BCE, of BASF, presented Immediate Vice President Mark “Shep” Sheperdigian, BCE, of Rose Pest Solutions, with a plaque recognizing all he has done for the organization. PHOTO: PI CHI OMEGA

Seeking nominations

Each year, Pi Chi Omega asks members to nominate industry colleagues and friends for three awards that recognize people sharing their technical knowledge, supporting Pi Chi Omega and enriching the urban pest management industry:

  • The Publication of Professional Services Award recognizes members’ contributions to the industry through the scientific publication of significant work.
  • The Award of Achievement recognizes those members who served the organization for 10 or more years and made superlative contributions during that time; or who have made a significant, positive impact on the industry.
  • The Generosity Award recognizes members who exhibit a genuine desire to better the organization and complete an honorable or selfless deed to benefit Pi Chi Omega.

By highlighting the professional accomplishments and the contributions to Pi Chi Omega by our members, we elevate the industry. If you would like to nominate a colleague for an award, please submit a nomination form, found online at PiChiOmega.org, by Aug. 15, 2024.
