What happens when you go to talk about pest control with a client and end up paying them money? In Dominion Pest Control’s case, it results in a major marketing and employee morale boost.
Jason Rothamel, commercial sales and new product analyst for the Lancaster, Pa.-based company, recalls finishing a routine inspection at the Buck Motorsports Park & Entertainment Complex last year, observing the many banners hung up for company sponsors of its monthly demolition derby. It sparked an idea.
“You won’t find more loyal customers than the derby crowd,” Rothamel reports. “If a small business is viewed favorably by ‘The Buck,’ that endorsement means a lot to their fans.”
Armed with knowledge of Dominion Pest Control’s marketing budget, Rothamel walked in and simply asked how his company could sponsor some upcoming demolition derbies. The Buck managerial team was more than happy to bring them aboard.
As the official pest control company of The Buck, and holders of several free passes that employees regularly get to enjoy, Dominion Pest Control has seen a bump in new customers. Rothamel says that when asked where they learned about the company, chances are now good they’ll reply, “I saw you at The Buck.”
Down at the derby
The Buck’s demolition derby events always draw a crowd, as seen during the Oct. 28 Halloween Demo Derby/Trunk or Treat event. Free tickets are awarded to interested employees chosen in random drawings held throughout the year.
Dominion team enjoys the event
At their first event in May 2023, Dominion Pest Control co-owner Maria Pettis and new product analyst Jason Rothamel chatted with eventgoers as they passed the company’s tent on the way to their seats.
Cornering the market
The Oct. 28 event saw Dominion Pest Control stepping up its tent size and signage, and brought even more attention to its sponsorship.
Leading the pack
Dominion’s Shawn Pettis, ACE, PHE, did donuts with his father, Greg Pettis, and the event announcer (standing) onto the track to kick off the Oct. 28 event.
