This year’s Tick Academy will take place Oct. 16-17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern.
Once a year, the Tick IPM Working Group hosts the event, which is an opportunity for researchers, educators, students, public health professionals, pest control professionals, public-space managers and citizen scientists interested in learning more about what they can do to stop the spread of ticks and tick-borne diseases in their communities.
The two-day event offers attendees an opportunity for education with the potential for continuing education unit (CEU) credit, depending on the individual state. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions after each presentation and will learn about new developments and research in the tick world.
This year’s Tick Academy includes:
A keynote presentation from Dr. Laura H. Kahn, the co-founder of the One Health Initiative. Dr. Kahn will share how the One Health approach can improve management of ticks and tick-borne diseases by facilitating collaboration between human, animal, environmental, and ecosystem health professionals.

- Dr. Nicole Chinnici from the Tick Research Lab of Pennsylvania
- Dr. Kerry Dooley and Dr. Roger Laine from Louisianna State University
- Rachel Walters from the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute’s Fire Ecology Program
- Brian Herrin from the Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine
- Joellen Lampman from the Don’t Get Ticked NY program
- Dr. John Carlson and Dr. Mark Janowiecki from the City of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board
- Dr. Ayra Sayyed from the Padula Institute of Vision
- Two panel discussions, “Engaging mosquito abatement districts in tick control” and “Emerging tick control technologies”
