The New England pest management community is mourning the loss of Ernie Nascimento, a dedicated industry leader and the founder of SHS Pest Control Corp., now part of a Rollins subsidiary, Connecticut Pest Elimination. Nascimento passed away on Jan. 5, aged 91.
The U.S. Army Veteran first worked as a mechanic, and then was self-taught in construction, which led to an apartment rental business. He founded SHS Pest Control Corp. in 1980 and operated the business alongside his wife, Michele Eccles, until their retirement in 2022.
Per his obituary, Nascimento “raced sailboats out of the Tiverton Yacht Club, taught navigation and small boat handling for the Newport Power Squadron, served in the Ski Patrol for Waterville Valley Ski Resort, and sat on the board of the Rhode Island Builders Association for many years.”
“Ernie was instrumental in forming the New England Pest Control Association, along with Steve Goldman and George Cardoza,” Eccles says. “He supported and embraced education and professionalism in the pest control industry. We all lost a good PCO and a good man.”
In addition to his beloved wife, survivors include daughters Sharon (Eric) and Susan (Mark), four grandchildren, two great-grandchilden and countless friends and colleagues.
A private burial will be held Jan. 21, 2026. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The PMP staff sends its sincere condolences to Nascimento’s family, friends and colleagues.
