• The installation will help 4Roots increase donated meals from 1.2 million to 1.5 million annually

Partnership details

Massey Services demonstrated the power of corporate community engagement by donating labor, expertise, and materials to expand 4Roots Farm Campus in Orlando, Fla. The company’s GreenUP landscape services division, under the direction of Bill Cohn, installed irrigation infrastructure that will boost the urban farm’s production capacity.

The new irrigation system will help 4Roots increase their food donations through the Meet the Need program from 1.2 million meals this year to an estimated 1.5 million meals. The organization works with 20 local community partners to distribute fresh produce to underserved areas, specifically targeting food deserts and vulnerable communities.

The bigger picture

Partnership in this nature showcases several business development strategies that pest management professionals (PMPs) should consider:

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) as marketing: Massey’s volunteer work generates positive community visibility without traditional advertising costs. For PMPs, similar partnerships with local food banks, schools or environmental groups can build brand recognition while supporting meaningful causes.

Employee engagement benefits: Volunteer programs boost team morale and provide hands-on training opportunities. Technicians could gain valuable experience working on community projects while building relationships with potential customers who serve on nonprofit boards.

Strategic partnership opportunities: 4Roots works with 20 community partners for food distribution. PMPs should identify similar hub organizations in their markets, such as food banks, community gardens or schools that could benefit from pest management expertise while providing networking opportunities.

Food for thought

Identify one nonprofit organization in your service area that could benefit from technical expertise, whether it’s pest management for a food bank, rodent exclusion for a community center or landscape maintenance for a school. Corporate partnerships like Massey’s don’t just happen. They require proactive outreach and a genuine commitment to community impact. This is the legacy that the late Harvey Massey, a Pest Management Professional Hall of Famer (Class of 2008), began during his tenure at the helm of the company and that continues today through his son, CEO Tony Massey and his team.
