This year, the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) undertook its most extensive market research initiative in recent memory, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to capture perspectives from industry stakeholders — members and non-members alike — across the United States and Canada.

The results exceeded expectations, revealing member satisfaction levels well above industry benchmarks. This research has become our strategic roadmap, identifying areas where the NPMA can deliver the greatest value. Members prioritized enhanced employee training programs, streamlined regulatory compliance support, comprehensive industry guidelines and robust advocacy efforts.

This data-driven approach enhances how the NPMA develops programs and allocates resources. The research also serves as the foundation for the NPMA’s ongoing member growth initiative, strengthening the industry by bringing more professionals into our collective advocacy network.

Sustainability resources

Environmental stewardship has emerged as a critical concern for pest management professionals (PMPs). Our dedicated Sustainability Task Force has been meeting consistently, bringing together industry experts and forward-thinking practitioners to develop practical solutions.

Members can anticipate exciting new resources rolling out soon, providing actionable guidance on implementing sustainable practices while maintaining operational effectiveness. These resources will address integrated pest management (IPM) techniques, reduced-risk product applications, energy-efficient practices and waste reduction strategies.

Building upon this momentum, the NPMA will host the Spotlight Series — Sustainability on April 14, 2026, in Chicago, Ill. More information is available at NPMApestworld.org/spotlight.

The NPMA also introduced two new awards. The Excellence in Sustainability Award, sponsored by Nisus, honors companies demonstrating exceptional commitment to sustainable practices. The Culture Catalyst Award, sponsored by Arrow Exterminators, recognizes organizations excelling in workplace culture. Both awards will be presented at PestWorld 2025.

New certification

The association recently launched NPMA PRO Certified, a comprehensive individual certification program that establishes professional credibility and recognizes expertise among PMPs. This groundbreaking certification elevates the industry by providing a standardized framework for demonstrating professional competency and commitment to excellence. NPMA PRO Certified joins the established QualityPro company accreditation program, expanding the NPMA’s certification offerings to serve both individual professionals and companies. Complete information about certification requirements, benefits and the application process is available at NPMApro.org.

Hiring support

Addressing one of the industry’s most persistent challenges, the NPMA’s Workforce Development Program has expanded significantly. One major milestone was enhancing the NPMA job board at PestControlJobs.com, which now allows members unlimited job postings at no additional cost.

The association also published the comprehensive Guide to Hiring & Developing Pest Control Service Managers, available with other workforce resources at NPMAworkforce.org. This guide provides step-by-step guidance on identifying, recruiting and developing effective industry service managers.
