A Memorial Day MLB game in San Diego, Calif., was saved from delay thanks to the actions of Kenny Hamilton, San Diego commercial manager of Truly Nolen Pest Control.

Truly Nolen Pest Control, based in Tuscon, Ariz., is the pest control partner of California’s San Diego Padres and Petco Park. Prior to the start of the May 26 game, a swarm of bees settled in the protective netting behind home plate.

MLB officials determined the bee colony should be removed to ensure the safety of the players and fans.

Hamilton was able to assist with this safe bee relocation without causing any delay to first pitch.

“As one of Kenny’s managers, I can tell you that when it comes to dedication, he truly sets the bar high. His work ethic is top-notch, and he’s incredibly talented in the field, always finding innovative solutions,” said John Harvey, commercial sales division manager for Truly Nolen. “What really stands out to me, especially after seeing him in action with those bees at Petco Park, is his incredible ability to assess a situation quickly and respond with precision. That kind of prowess with something as unpredictable as a swarm of bees speaks volumes about his skill and composure under pressure.”

This is not the first instance of a bee-related disturbance at an MLB game. During an April 2024 game in Phoenix, Ariz., Matt Hilton, branch manager of Blue Sky Pest Control, was called in to handle a bee colony that had formed on the field.

Hilton gained national attention for his successful removal of the bees, which saved the game, allowing it to be played. He was even honored with a limited-edition trading card from Topps that featured him on the front and bees on the back.

It remains to be seen if Hamilton’s heroism will be met with the same honor from the baseball card giant. If so, he has our vote.
