WEST CHESTER, PA—In an effort to provide the best possible service for their customers and encourage career growth and development for their employees, Green Lawn Fertilizing and its pest division, Green Pest Solutions, have initiated a quarterly cross-training program for all of their employees. They continue their training events throughout the season on many different topics so that they are always able to address any concerns their customers may have.
During their most recent training session, employees covered a variety of topics, including an overview of their fall fertilizing and tree and shrub services, an introduction to their measuring process, the value of great customer service, and a hands-on demonstration of a termite treatment.
In addition to expanding their employees’ knowledge of lawn and pest control issues, cross-training helps to build relationships between
coworkers. Due to the nature of their business, many of their employees are out of the office. Although they speak to each other daily, they don’t always have the chance to see their coworkers. Team-building initiatives, like their training events, are one way that Green Lawn Fertilizing emphases leadership and training.
There was also an emphasis on fun and recognition: At this particular training day, each department chair was given 10 Wawa gift cards to hand out to any employee who “stood out” during the sessions.
