Earth Day is today. The event got its start in 1970, when Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson announced the idea for a “national teach-in on the environment” after seeing the damage caused by a massive oil spill that occurred in Santa Barbara, Calif., the year before. Earth Day is observed throughout the world with rallies and festivals that spread the word about the importance of caring for the planet.

How do you celebrate Earth Day?

Check out these blogs to see how several pest management companies celebrate Earth Day:

  • Southwest Florida’s Lenny’s Pest Control Inc. offers six tips for natural pest control, which include prevention and non-toxic control methods.
  • Also in Florida, Massey Services Inc. lists fun facts about this year’s Earth Day, such as when and why it was created and the estimated number of people who will participate.
  • Northwest Exterminating in Atlanta touts its green pest control methods and lists ways its customers can celebrate the day. Ideas include cleaning up litter from local roads and parks, buying local and organic produce, or taking public transportation or riding a bike instead of driving.
  • Bell Environmental Services in Fairfield, N.J., discusses its green pest control practices, which include avoiding the use of pesticides when possible, using physical barriers if applicable, and employing Integrated Pest Management techniques.
  • Idaho’s Gemtek Pest Control includes a brief history of Earth Day and reminds customers that everyone should care for the environment every day.
