A pest management professional’s assessment of a neighborhood fly problem led to the discovery of a home with 40 neglected dogs, according a story on the Asbury Park Press website. In Lakewood, N.J., a Spruce St. resident called A to Z Pest Control & Termite about nine months ago to rid the backyard deck of a swarm of flies. Regional Manager Avrom Markovits checked the home and the yard but could find no reason for the flies. Until the flies recently returned, that is. That’s when the company learned several neighbors in the area had the same problem, according to the article. Markovits heard a nearby homeowner had dogs that were not properly cared for and figured that was the source of the flies. He suggested the customer call animal control officials, who discovered the animals and their filthy living quarters. Local animal rescue groups are caring for huskies, golden retrievers, border collies, and mixed breed dogs. Markovits told Asbury Park Press, “Not only were we able to give these people their back yard back…we were able to help find shelter (for the dogs).”
