An abandoned home in San Juan was more than just an eyesore to neighbors and city officials. It was a haven for bees that took up residence in the structure, reports KGBT Television of Harlingen, Texas. Neighbors called authorities to complain of snakes and mosquitos as well, and insisted the city cut the grass to alleviate the pest problems. City workers who showed up to mow the overgrown lawn discovered an infestation of bees.Esparza Pest Control was called out and discovered a 40-lb. honeycomb inside the walls, along with thousands of bees. A tech from the company told news crews bee season has been longer than usual due to the wet weather. Of course, bees can infest any home, not just those that have been abandoned. Viewers were advised to contact a pest management company if bees have infiltrated their homes.
