Dirt-filled porches can be a thorn in the side of every termite control company. They are often referred to as “the builder’s trash can.” In addition to debris from construction activity, soil settles unevenly, causing termiticide to flow to the lowest point, often missing the termites.

A simple way to avoid multiple retreats is to simply install a removable foundation vent in one or both sides of the porch. Another bonus with vent installation: Too often, I have encountered what was supposed to be a dirt-filled porch that actually turned out to be hollow with a drain beneath it or suspended over a basement. A vent can resolve potential problems in such situations.
