Is your state becoming a first-generation bait state? Environmental activism, endangered species, protected species and high-water mark areas are some of the challenges facing pest professionals’ rodenticide use. Selecting the right rodenticide for the right environment should be a part of every control program. Here are three tips to keep in mind when making choices:

1. Check your local area for endangered species on U.S. Fish and Wildlife interactive maps (available at FWS.gov/endangered).
2. Choose less-toxic first-generation bait or trapping for higher risk areas.
3. Choose a strong bait station and use anchors on all your rodenticide placements.
