On May 2, Black Diamond Pest Control, based just north of Louisville, Ky., participated in the Kentucky Derby Festival Great Bed Races for the first time. This evening event has kicked off the famous Kentucky Derby week for the last 17 years. The Black Diamond team spent three weeks prior to the race building their bed on wheels and decorating it as the “World’s Fastest Bed Bug Eliminators,” observing the event’s theme of “Race for the Cup.”
Three thousand fans watched 30 teams compete on a figure-8 course with their various beds on wheels, which had to follow rigid rules and specifications. Black Diamond placed third out of the 20 teams in its division, only 0.4 seconds from getting to race in the winner-takes-all final heat.
“With it being our first year participating in the event, we didn’t know exactly what to expect,” says Keith Duncan Jr., Black Diamond owner and CEO. “It is an extremely fun and energetic evening. We are excited to participate again next year with some experience under our belt.”
