Traditional insecticides can still play an important role in ant management. First, locate ant trails, nests or mounds and areas where ants may be expected to forage. From there, it’s all about choosing the most appropriate insecticide and applying it correctly. Two active ingredient options include:
- Bifenthrin — Granular formulations may be used for perimeter applications and fire ant mound treatments. Liquid bifenthrin formulations may be applied indoors and outdoors.
- Fipronil — It may be applied to the outside surfaces of labeled structures, into wall voids and as a perimeter application 1 foot up and 1 foot out from where the ground meets the foundation.
