Pest management professionals (PMPs) are in it to win it. They’ve been gaining yardage since March 2020, when pest control was deemed an essential service at the onset of the pandemic.

Our 2022 State of the Industry report, highlights the results of our exclusive annual survey that asked PMPs how business has been during the past year and their projections for the year ahead.

There’s plenty to cheer about: Ninety-one percent project their revenue will increase in 2022, with two-thirds of them projecting climbs of 10 percent or more. In addition, 83 percent project their materials and equipment budgets will rise in 2022.

Pandemic-related challenges linger, they said, but differ from those experienced last year. For example, personal protective equipment that was once in short supply is now readily available. Instead, reliable employees seem to be scarce. PMPs are not sitting on the sidelines, however: They are finding creative ways to hire and retain workers.

To help those of you who are looking for advice on how to fill openings on your rosters, we asked our columnists and Editorial Advisory Board members to share the qualities they look for in a hire. Good communication skills, a desire to serve customers, and inquisitiveness were among the top qualities mentioned. Check out this issue for additional ideas, and plan for victory.
