Industry insiders Pete Schopen, Maria Sorrentino, ACE, and Alan Feuer, ACE, will partner to host several seminars this year on the importance on leadership. At press time, they were scheduled to host these events in Denver, Colo.; Chicago, Ill.; and Dallas, Texas.

The seminar, titled “Lead People, Manage Stuff,” will offer an opportunity for pest control company leaders to step away from the entomological side of the business and focus on the “people” side, according to a news release.

The two-day classes are just part of the experience. Feuer and Schopen also plan on hosting Zoom meetings with the participants for several weeks after the events. The two pest control veterans want to show that good company culture starts at the top with strong leadership.

“Without training and development of leaders, we default to management-and-control instead of inspiring-and-encouraging,” Feuer said in the news release.

Schopen is a second-generation pest management professional (PMP) and owns Schopen Pest Solutions in McHenry, Ill. The former sports broadcaster writes a monthly column on business and consults many companies to help them grow their businesses for Pest Management Professional magazine.

“Good leadership creates great culture which in turn improves profits,” Schopen said in the release.

Feuer, who works for Albuquerque, N.M.-based Preventive Pest Control, is also a U.S. Marine. He has worked at every level of pest control, including as an owner. He is a renowned expert in wood destroying organisms but he says his true passion is leadership training,

“Leadership training is important! It is just as important as learning how to read, write and do basic math,” Feuer said.

Sorrentino and her company, Hive Mind Consulting, will host the conferences.

Sorrentino, who also owns Pest Pros of Michigan, said, “I’m excited at the opportunity to bring a unique educational experience to pest control owners and their managers.”

The trio hopes to expand to even more cities in 2024. The first seminar will be April 29-30 in Denver, Colo. People who are interrested can sign up at www.eventbrite.com and type in key words “lead people manage stuff.” Participants can also call 269-503-9860.
