Performing detailed inspections always is the first step in any pest management strategy, but for cockroaches is it imperative. These insects are cryptic by nature and can hide in areas that are extremely difficult to find, let alone reach for treatment.
Start your inspection with a good flashlight with a powerful beam. Using one with a red filter is even better, as cockroaches won’t be as disturbed by the red light.
Physical removal with a vacuum cleaner is an essential part of cockroach management. Using a vacuum removes a large part of the population without having to depend on insecticides.
Remember, bait aversion and insecticide resistance are prevalent among certain cockroach populations. Rotate baits frequently and use a variety of active ingredients with different modes of action when choosing your products. Using non-repellent liquid products will keep the cockroaches from spreading throughout a facility into unwanted areas and will allow them to remain in the treated area until eliminated.
