Mosquitoes are challenging public health pests because they can be very difficult to control, their presence is annoying, and the potential diseases they can transmit can be life-threatening. Helping customers reduce the populations, though, may require conversations that could be difficult. It is important to stress the benefits for them and the larger community when following a few simple practices.

Let customers know that keeping the exterior of their property clean and clear is essential to prevent future mosquito development and infestations. They might not realize that shady areas that collect water are especially conducive to mosquito breeding. Help them take part in the process by finding these areas and showing them the easy, everyday steps they can take to make their properties inhospitable for these pests. Practices like removing excess foliage, keeping the lawn cut, emptying standing water in containers and cleaning the gutters are crucial for prevention. Remind customers that mosquitoes are potentially dangerous pests, and that taking ownership in these best practices can protect their health and the health of the community.
