Many pests that our industry deals with daily are arthropods, which can prove to be some of the most challenging pests to eliminate from a property. Having the right tools and products will make arthropod jobs more efficient and effective, all while reducing callbacks.
The foundation, or starting point, of all programs should be a detailed inspection of the property with a bright flashlight. Don’t forget areas like attics, drop ceilings, storage spaces (especially those with locked doors), gutters and rooftops.
Once you have properly identified the pest(s), you need to choose the best methods and solutions that will eliminate the intruders. One go-to method is a portable vacuum. Don’t underestimate the impact of using a vacuum to physically remove the pests you see.
When dealing with social insects, consider baits and nonrepellent, dilutable residual sprays to get the active ingredient (AI) into the entire colony. Repellent residual products are great for entry points like plumbing penetrations and door thresholds. Finally, be sure to use chemical products with different AIs and modes of action to help avoid potential chemical resistance.
