Most spiders are harmless and play an important role in controlling the insect population. However, they can be a nuisance pest, reproducing quickly and leaving cobwebs in hard-to-reach areas. They also might cause anxiety for homeowners, leading to calls and complaints. Most spider species prefer to live outdoors and feast on insects. When they make their way indoors, they are typically looking for prey or coming inside for warmth when the temperature drops outside.

Following are a few best practices to follow to control spiders:

  • Control the perimeter. Spiders are predators, so keeping their prey outdoors is key to control. Apply comprehensive perimeter controls for general insect control.
  • Search for webs. Use a cobweb brush to remove webbing from hard-to-reach places. This will put physiological stress on the spiders and displace nesting sites.
  • Keep the indoors clean. Talk to customers about the importance of removing clutter and reducing humidity to ensure the property is as inhospitable as possible for this pest. Regular vacuuming and sweeping also will remove spiders and their webs.
