NEPMA awards industry professionals at annual meeting

The New England Pest Management Association (NEPMA) welcomed nearly 300 pest management professionals, industry partners and vendors to its highly anticipated 2026 Spring Training and Annual Awards Dinner, held on March 4 in Marlborough, Massachusetts.

The event delivered a full day of education, collaboration and celebration, reinforcing NEPMA’s commitment to advancing professionalism and excellence across the pest management industry.

Daytime training

The daytime training program featured a strong emphasis on regulatory updates and environmental stewardship, with expert speakers from state agencies across New England. Attendees gained valuable insights from representatives of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, Vermont Agency of Agriculture, and New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, among others. Topics included water protection, pesticide regulations, drift and contamination, and emerging issues such as PFAS.

In addition to regulatory discussions, the program also explored key technical topics impacting the field today, including bed bugs and carpet beetles, equipping professionals with practical knowledge to better serve their customers.

The event also featured a vibrant exhibit hall with sponsors, providing attendees opportunities to connect with industry-leading partners and explore the latest products and innovations.

2026 Award Recipients

The day concluded with NEPMA’s Annual Awards Dinner, an evening dedicated to recognizing individuals whose leadership, innovation, and service have made a lasting impact on the industry.

Vendor of the Year — Kelley Altland, BASF

Kelly Altland

Kelley Altland was recognized for her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to NEPMA and the broader pest management community. As chair of multiple committees—including NEPMA’s PestVets, PWIPM, and Membership & Sponsorship—Altland has played a pivotal role in strengthening engagement, supporting veterans, empowering women in the industry, and driving organizational growth. Her collaborative spirit and dedication continue to elevate both NEPMA and the industry as a whole.

PWIPM Women of Excellence Award — Natasha Wright, BCE, Braman Termite & Pest Elimination

Natasha Wright was honored for her outstanding technical expertise and leadership. As a Board Certified Entomologist and Technical Director, she leads multi-state licensing and training initiatives for over 150 professionals while maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental responsibility. Wright is also an active industry educator and community volunteer, exemplifying professionalism, mentorship, and service.

Professional of the Year — Kurt Upham, Founder of ohDEER

Kurt Upham was recognized for his innovation and impact in advancing eco-conscious pest management solutions. As the founder of ohDEER, Upham pioneered all-natural deer, tick, and mosquito control methods in the Northeast. His hands-on leadership, commitment to mentorship, and dedication to community initiatives—ranging from charitable programs to public health efforts—have set a new standard for responsible and effective pest management.

Mark Weintraub ScholarshipAddie Hinds, Northeastern University

In addition, NEPMA awarded the Mark Weintraub Scholarship to Addie Hinds, a Northeastern University student pursuing a degree in Health Science on a pre-med track. Hinds was selected for her academic excellence, curiosity, and commitment to making a meaningful impact in underserved communities.
