Spring marks the start of peak fly season, and proactive control now can save you and your customers headaches later. House flies, fruit flies and drain flies become more active as temperatures rise, searching for breeding sites and food. Remember, flies need moisture and organic matter to thrive. In spring, the melting snow, standing water and blooming vegetation often increase fly pressure.
Start with a thorough inspection, focusing on common spring hotspots like overflowing dumpsters, drains, compost piles and areas with standing water. Look for early fly activity and breeding sites, especially in and around foodservice accounts. Emphasize sanitation — removing organic buildup and reducing moisture is half the battle.
Seal entry points early in the season before populations surge. Encourage clients to maintain doors, windows and screens. Combining good sanitation, exclusion and monitoring this spring will set you up for fewer fly callbacks all summer.
