Follow these simple tips to catch more critters:

When putting out cage traps, it’s critical to bait them properly. The bait must be placed in the back of the trap beyond the trigger pan. A common mistake is to bait the trigger pan itself. No bait should ever be placed on the trigger pan of a one-door trap; it’s not a bait pan. Placing bait beyond the trigger pan forces the target animal to commit to moving into the trap.

To improve your set, hang the bait from the rear top of the trap with a bait basket or S-hook, suspending it about a third of the way down. Hanging the bait will provide a better visual and improve the scent line to the target animal. Hanging the bait better positions the target animal to trigger the trap.

By hanging the bait, it also keeps ants and other crawling insects from getting to the bait and making it less desirable for your targeted animal
