A British couple will receive a five-figure payout after taking its travel agency to court for booking them into a pest-infested hotel.

Jessica Mann and Aaron Rigby claimed bed bugs ruined the vacation they took in May of 2011, and they have been suffering ever since, DailyMail.com reports. So they sued Thomas Cook Tours, a United Kingdom-based travel agency dating to 1841, and won.

The couple stayed at a resort in the Dominican Republic, where they say they experienced blisters and rashes. The bites made an existing skin condition of Mann’s worse, and she said the blisters on her skin were so severe she had to take a month off work when she returned from her trip. She is still in pain, she said, and wishes she had never gone on vacation. In addition, Mann said, her hotel room so many insects, not just bed bugs, that the couple stuffed newspapers under the door to keep them out.

Thomas Cook Tours settled the case while denying any liability. The amount of the payout remains confidential, per the couple’s request.
