The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), which serves as the public outreach arm of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), took to social media during Rodent Awareness Week, Nov. 15-21, to help the public better understand the threats rodents can pose to health and property. PPMA also encouraged member companies to take part in the observance on their social channels, and the response was great.
Of the social media channels, Twitter proved the most successful in terms of member participation. There were about 300 rodent-focused tweets from pest control companies during Rodent Awareness Week, which generated close to 200,000 impressions. The majority of tweets from member companies included the hashtag #RodentAwareness. PPMA coined this hashtag and encouraged members to use it in their tweets.
On Facebook, more than 20 pest control companies joined the conversation on Facebook by posting about rodents during Rodent Awareness Week.
