Which digital technology trends are having a big impact on our industry? Experts chime in:
“Smartphones and tablets are likely to soon be the only phones and the only piece of technology a technician will carry. The Internet of Things (IoT) will marry the phone to sprayers, rodent equipment, insect light traps (ILTs) and the logbook. The equipment will report pest captures and identify the pests; the phones will alert the technician. The phone also will be able to identify pests or connect with those who can. It also will keep the office apprised as to the status of the work and the location of the tech. Young techs will care less about this than old techs, because much of this already is happening.”
“Pest identification through social media and digital platforms. Twitter, Facebook, texting, emails, Instagram — all of these and more help pest management professionals stay on top of the latest pest issues and share ideas. I use texting with my clients all of the time. It cuts down on extra services. If a client can text me a picture, I can evaluate the pest issue before I blindly send a tech to the account.”
