Do not be fooled into thinking things like how a western drywood termite (Incisitermes minor) would never exist in New York. With the advent of technology and commerce, this does happen. Be prepared for any species when called for a termite inspection.

If it is a small drywood colony and easily accessible, and you price and treat immediately, you become the hero. Remember, decayed wood actually is eaten faster and preferred over sound wood. Decayed wood promotes digestion and increases foraging. I recommend borate wood preservatives because they prevent re-use of termite tunnels and stop decay of the infested wood. Liquid termiticides can be used in conjunction with borates.
