Perseverance is essential

When the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) held its annual Legislative Day event in Washington, D.C., we had no way of knowing the House and Senate offices on Capitol Hill would shut down a couple of days later due to the coronavirus pandemic.

NPMA members were among the last groups to lobby their state representatives. Among the talking points was the importance of the services pest management professionals (PMPs) provide — to help Congressional representatives better understand how PMPs protect residential structures, as well as the nation’s food supply and public health.

Thanks to the NPMA, federal and state regulators are getting the message loud and clear. As the coronavirus pandemic requires many Americans to shelter in place, pest control is being declared an essential service in many states. This distinction is important, as it allows PMPs to continue to provide critical pest control services.

The organization helped launch grassroots campaigns to urge lawmakers to declare the designation, proving once again that PMPs persevere.
