Mosquito callbacks can drain time, money and customer goodwill. Fortunately, many are preventable with a few strategic adjustments to your service approach. Here are four proven ways to reduce retreatments and maximize results in the field:
- Inspect thoroughly, every time. Where container-breeding mosquitoes are prevalent, missed breeding or resting sites are the No. 1 cause of callbacks. Take time on each visit to evaluate the entire property, including shaded areas, under decks and around sheds. No area should be taken for granted. Non-obvious items like air conditioner evaporation pans, potted plants, tarps or equipment covers and even water-holding foliage can be potential breeding sites.
- Tailor treatment plans to the specific region being treated and consider site location. More than 150 mosquito species inhabit North America, and they do not all share the same traits.
- Avoid overpromising with terms like “eradication.” Instead, set realistic expectations and educate clients on what to expect between services.
- Apply accurately and aggressively. Be sure to treat the underside of vegetation and account for rapid summer growth. Always adhere to the instructions on the label. Incorporate traps in your service to intercept egg-laying females coming onto your customers’ property and to tip you off to missed breeding sites.
